Election Resources: Glenwood Springs Chamber Board Ballot Measure Endorsements, 2024 Ballot Guide and Issues and Answers Candidate Forum
After careful consideration, the Glenwood Springs Chamber Board of Directors has taken a position in support of two ballot measures that are in alignment with our mission and vision: Glenwood Springs Ballot Measure 2A and Statewide Proposition JJ.
Mission: The mission of the Glenwood Springs Chamber is helping business thrive and community prosper.
Vision: We envision a vibrant and thriving community where businesses flourish, collaboration is celebrated, the unique spirit of our community is preserved and enhanced, residents are engaged, and visitors experience the warmth of our hospitality.
In addition, we have partnered with the Colorado Competitive Council to produce a 2024 BALLOT GUIDE which includes summaries both for and against the statewide ballot measures.
Glenwood Springs Ballot Measure 2A
Ballot Issue 2A proposes a 1 penny sales tax for the next 20 years dedicated to maintaining and improving the City’s aging streets and underlying utility systems, including water and sewer infrastructure. These funds will be strictly allocated for infrastructure projects, with an annual independent audit ensuring transparency. The tax is an extension of the current half penny sales tax, approved in 2005, with an additional half penny to address inflation and rising costs. Learn more.
Board of Directors Statement
Proposition JJ – Sports Betting Tax Revenue for Water Projects:
The Glenwood Springs Chamber Board of Directors supports Proposition JJ, which would allow the State of Colorado to retain excess tax revenue generated from sports betting and allocate those funds toward essential water projects. Water resources are vital to our community, and ensuring continued state investment in these resources is critical for the long-term viability of our region. We believe that supporting Proposition JJ will benefit both the local and state economies by safeguarding Colorado’s water sources, which are fundamental to our community's prosperity. Learn more.
